Grow Lights For Succulents

Some of the easiest plants you can grow indoors are succulents.  These plants are know for growing in arid climates and have the ability to retain water.  These plants feature small, daisy-like flowers but probably most impressive are the broad array of different types of foliage that they offer.  They enjoy growing in bright light, and can take a little bit of neglect in terms of watering and fertilizing, and will still look great.  It is important to grow them indoors with appropriate grow lights, in order to give them the light that they need to thrive and flourish for a long time.

Succulents have few requirements for growing well indoors.  One big one is that they do not like to have their roots sopping wet, so it is important to use well-draining soil.  There are special potting soil mixtures especially formulated for cactii, and you can use this as well for other succulents to good effect.  (It bears mentioning that while a cactus is a succulent, not all succulents are cactii.)  You can fertilize them lightly with a complete organic fertilizer once a month or so.

You can achieve some very pretty decorative effects for little money with succulents.  You can try growing them in pretty and large tin cans, for example, that have decorative labels.  Ceramic bowls that are wide and shallow are another good choice, and these can be picked up at yard sales and thrift stores in a huge variety of colors to complement your succulents.

The grow lights that you use will be the key to your success with these diminutive yet striking accent plants.  HPS lights and metal halide lights work very well for growing all manner of plants indoors.  With each of these types of bright-light bulbs, you will also need a ballast and reflector, the first to control the electrical flow through the light bulb so that it lights properly, and the second so that you can extend the area of light in your grow room.
